Students will learn to accurately estimate concrete costs. Using a real set of drawings, students will perform a complete concrete takeoff and will apply material and labor costs to that takeoff to assemble a complete estimate. Students will leave this class with the knowledge needed to produce accurate concrete estimates using efficient and reliable estimating techniques.

Traditional Concrete Visualization & Estimation Methods:

• Estimating slab in cubic feet: multiply the length by the width by the depth of the desired slab in inches, then divide by 1728 to calculate the slab’s total cubic feet (don’t forget to add ten percent to adjust for variations and waste)
  • For cubic yards: follow the steps above and divide by 27
• Visualizing a cubic yard: Imagine a 9’ x 9’ slab at 4” deep, or approximately five sidewalk squares
